As AI increasingly influences the architectural industry, it is fundamentally altering how architects approach design, regulatory compliance, and the overall safety and well-being of building occupants. This session offers a thorough examination of the transformative potential of AI in ensuring design compliance with building codes and regulations while addressing critical issues related to liability, ethics, and the safeguarding of human health and safety.

Additionally, the session will delve into the legal implications of using AI in architecture, including issues surrounding professional responsibility, copyright of AI-generated designs, and the necessity for human oversight. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to navigate these challenges, ensuring that AI enhances rather than diminishes the safety, health, and welfare of building occupants.

Participants will also learn how to leverage AI to streamline processes, reducing the risk of human error, and enhancing the overall quality of architectural designs.

Key Learning Objectives:

  1. Master Regulatory Compliance with AI:
Understand how AI can be leveraged to ensure architectural designs comply with local building codes, safety standards, and accessibility requirements, thereby minimizing the risk of non-compliance and enhancing occupant safety.
  2. Address Liability and Professional Responsibility:
Explore the legal and ethical implications of integrating AI into architectural practice, including the distribution of liability between AI systems and human architects, and develop strategies to maintain professional accountability.
  3. Enhance Health, Safety, and Well-being through AI:
Learn how AI can be applied to prioritize and improve the health, safety, and well-being of building occupants by optimizing design decisions in accordance with safety and accessibility regulations.
  4. Navigate Ethical and Legal Challenges in AI Integration:
Examine the ethical considerations and legal challenges posed by AI in architecture, including issues of liability, copyright, and bias, and understand the responsibilities of architects in this evolving technological landscape.

Course Instructor:
Dity Ayalon, AIA, SARA

As a construction entrepreneur and licensed architect in New York, my international experience and education span the United States, the Middle East, Europe, and Brazil. Throughout my career, I’ve taken on diverse roles, including architect, designer, project manager, NYC Building Department expediter, and investor representative, giving me a multifaceted perspective on the inefficiencies within the architectural process.

As a pioneer in integrating AI and algorithms into architectural design, I founded ArkDesign.AI. This AI design tool for architects consistently ranks among the top across global media, with features in prestigious publications such as ArchDaily, Architizer, BIM Corner, and more.

Originating in New York City, ArkDesign.AI has built a user base that includes leading architects from prominent firms in the NYC metropolitan area. With operations extending across the U.S., the Middle East, and Asia, the company saw a significant surge in demand following the launch of Ark 2.0 in 2023. ArkDesign.AI now serves thousands of users from over 130 countries, establishing itself as a key player in the industry, with tens of thousands of organic inbound requests from architects, real estate developers, and academics worldwide.

Beyond my entrepreneurial efforts, I actively provide guidance to influential organizations and policymakers, including the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), and The American Institute of Architects (AIA), where I contribute to continuing education and publications on AI and architecture.

Before founding ArkDesign.AI, I co-founded and served as the managing partner of Urbany, a real estate housing development and investment platform in New York City. My commitment to sustainability and innovative design technologies, particularly in high-density urban areas, is evident through our company’s R&D efforts, which have garnered millions of dollars in prizes and grants.
