How to Regenerate Units in ArkDesign.AI

Unit Regeneration Workflow in ArkDesign.AI: A Complete Guide

Unit regeneration in ArkDesign.AI enables designers to revise and optimize unit layouts without losing the benefits of automated planning, code checks, and spatial efficiency. This structured workflow ensures full design flexibility while preserving the platform’s intelligence and compliance systems.

1. Preparing the Area for Regeneration

Unit regeneration begins in the Floor Editor, where previously generated units can be selectively removed. Once the area is cleared, users must prepare the space for new AI-generated layouts.

Two settings in the left panel are essential:

  • Use: Set to Residential
  • Type: Set to AI Generate

These designations tell the system that the selected zone is intended for automated unit planning, enabling ArkDesign.AI to apply its optimization algorithms and code rules.

2. Opening the AI Unit Mix Configuration

After the area is designated correctly, users can activate AI Generate, which opens the Plan Unit Mix interface. This panel allows designers to control the composition of units that will be generated.

Available configuration options include:

  • Unit types (Studio, 1B, 2B, etc.)
  • Percentage-based distribution
  • Exact unit counts

This dual-input system provides both flexibility and precision. Use percentages for proportional planning across larger floor plates, or input exact counts for tightly controlled development programs.

3. System Validation and Design Considerations

Before generating the new layout, ArkDesign.AI performs automatic checks to ensure the design is viable. Successful regeneration depends on several key conditions:

The area must provide:

  • Sufficient window-wall length for natural light
  • Clear corridor connectivity for code-compliant egress
  • Adequate overall area to meet minimum unit sizes

If any requirement is unmet, the system will notify the user, ensuring every design remains buildable and code-aligned.

4. Generating and Reviewing Unit Layouts

Once unit mix inputs are finalized, users click Generate AI Plan. ArkDesign.AI then produces optimized layout options that balance:

  • Circulation efficiency
  • Unit size standards
  • Code and habitability requirements
  • Overall floor efficiency

Users can preview multiple layouts, compare results, and then select Apply Selected to implement the preferred design.

This regeneration process can be repeated as needed to refine scenarios, test alternative mixes, or explore financial and layout implications.

5. A Flexible, Iterative Design Tool

Unit regeneration ensures that ArkDesign.AI supports both automation and manual design control. By allowing users to delete, modify, and regenerate units—while still enforcing structural and code rules—the platform maintains a seamless and iterative workflow from schematic design to feasibility analysis.
